This week, we continued thinking about our terrain. Eventually we decided on what it would look like, although we did make a few changes to the original design. Both Arnau and Anna made a sketch of what it would like, and Arnau even made a visual on his computer. We decided that our base would be made of 0.5-1cm thick wood, which we would cover with turf to create some friction and a terrain similar to that of the hills in Easter Island. We knew we needed strong glue, the wood and turf, and we decided who would get what. Anna got the wood for the base and decided on all the measurements so she could get it cut to that size beforehand. We decided that the columns that held up the ramp in Arnau's design would be difficult to build and would not provide a lot of support, so we omitted them in Anna's design and instead used wood. Also, we realized that the thickness of the wood we initially thought of getting was much too heavy for our purposes, so most of the base is 0.3-0.4 mm in thickness. Arnau got the turf, the glue and a sharp knife to cut through the turf. We bought all of the materials, but we did not yet begin to build. Throughout this process, Irene, the inventory manager helped us figure out exactly what we needed.
The first image below is Arnau's initial sketch of the wooden base and the size of the materials we would need. The second image is the visual of the terrain that Arnau made on his computer to help us get a better image of what it would look like. The last image is Anna's sketch of the materials she would need to get, where the columns in the first designs had already been ommited. These sketches allowed us o get a clearer image of what we needed and how we could make the base.
